Cyclists raise funds in charity cycle from Cork to Limerick.

Lee Garage, South Terrace, in association with the Midleton Cycling Club had their annual charity cycle in aid of the Irish Cancer Society and Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin. The charity event took place on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th July.

Eight cyclists: Frampton Jeffery, Liam Leahy, Brendan O’Callaghan, Gavin Jeffery, Dominic Dunne, John Murphy, Damian Murphy and William Leahy took part this year.

We set off from the Lee Garage on South Terrace at 10am on Saturday morning. The route from Cork city to Limerick will took us through Mallow and Charleville.

On the return journey on Sunday we took the “scenic route” and rode through Hospital, Knocklong, Ballylanders, Mitchelstown, Fermoy and Rathcormac. The Charity cycle will finished at Lisgoold on Sunday evening, where we were met by Lisa the owner of The Thatch Pub with sandwiches and a well deserved pint!

We coverered a total of 220kms over the two days.

This was the 7th consecutive year we cycled to raise vital funds for two very worthy charities. These charities require funds for innovative cancer research, hospital equipment and care nurses for the terminally ill.

The whole event went very smoothly with an extra effort put in this year by the most important people on the trip—the collectors. The buckets of money have been sent to the bank to be counted, and we eagerly await to see how much we have raised.

There will be a presentation of cheques made to the two charities in October.
