Vehicle Taxes - The New Laws On 1 July 2008 the law changed to make both the VRT (Vehicle Registration Tax) and the Annual Road Tax dependent upon the emissions of the car. Previously these taxes had been based on the engine size. The new law uses the CO2 emissions. The Bands There are seven bands, A to G, in the new tax structure, and these are divided based on the CO2 emissions of the new car. For each band there is a rate of VRT and Annual Road Tax. The bands are as follows : Band A cars that produce 0-120g/km CO2 Fiat and the new laws Fiat, as the car manufacturer in Europe with the lowest average CO2 emissions, saw almost all it’s cars reduce in price when the new law was introduced, due to the lower VRT applicable. Having an unbeatable range of 5 different models in Band A also means that you can find a vehicle to suit your every need and still only pay the lowest rate of Annual Road Tax. In Band A are the following Fiat cars : 500 1.2 Currently cars in Band A pay just €104 of Annual Road Tax. |
